Accreditation and Approvals

Accreditation: The professional Master's in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine degree program of the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), which is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of programs preparing acupuncture and Oriental medicine practitioners in North America. ACAOM is located at the Maryland Trade Center #3, 7501 Greenway Center Drive, Ste. 760, Greenbelt, MD 20770, Telephone: (301) 313-0855 or Fax: (301) 313-0912.

Master's Degree Authorization: Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine is authorized by the Washington Higher Education Coordination Board (HECB) and meets the requirements and minimum educational standards established for degree-granting institutions under the Degree Authorization Act.  This authorization is valid until August 15, 2009, and authorizes Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine to offer the following program:  Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.   Any person desiring information about the requirements of the Act or the applicability of those requirements to the institution may contact the HECB office at P.O. Box 43430, Olympia, WA   98504-3430.

Washington Department of Health Approval: The Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine is recognized by the Washington State Department of Health as an approved college of acupuncture and Oriental medicine in Washington. California Approval: The M.Ac.O.M. program at the Seattle Institute is approved by the California Acupuncture Committee. Therefore graduates of the program may sit for the licensing exam in the state of California.
