Points and Techniques
These classes provide instruction in the basics of the palpation and location of channels and points as well as the technical and analytical skills necessary for treatment. Students learn to find points based on anatomical location, minute changes in temperature, tension, stickiness and other indicators of channel or point activity. Major energetic functions and classifications of the channels and points are discussed with their application to patients being seen in clinic. Practice in assessment skills and case discussions improve diagnostic skills along with study of needling techniques and other methods of stimulation of points ready the student for the treatment of patients.

These classes provide orientation to the various skills utilized by the acupuncturist in the assessment and care of patients. Students learn and practice tongue diagnosis, pulse taking, and palpation skills. They also learn cupping, gwa sha, moxibustion and basic needling. Students learn a variety of herbal preparation techniques including salves, tinctures, washes, powders, pills and several external methods of herbal application. Case presentations regarding patients being seen in clinic also occur.

This course provides a lab setting for studying the anatomical nature of points and their precise locations based on standard traditional Chinese medicine texts. This class emphasizes how this study translates into the insertion of needles, particularly in regards to the angle and depth of insertion.

This course covers the traditional point classifications such as the source (yuan) points, connecting (luo) points, five transport (shu) points and cleft (xi) points, with a focus on their location and usage.
| 524 OSHA/CNT/Safety | 15 hours | 1 credit |
This course covers important OSHA requirements for safety and office hygiene as well as protocols for clean needle technique. CPR and First Aid certification are also required.

This course provides practice in freehand needle insertion, advanced needling techniques and the needling of dangerous points. Additional training is also provided in the use of ion-pumping cords and other Japanese techniques. Auriculotherapy and scalp acupuncture are introduced and practiced.
