The Seattle Institute has a rolling admissions policy that allows the school to consider early admissions applicants. The school accepts applications for admission beginning in October for entry into the program the following September. Applicants with plans to complete some prerequisites prior to entry into the program may be accepted on a contingency basis. Interviews are scheduled each month through the winter to meet with qualified applicants. Decisions regarding acceptance are made within two weeks of the interview. Applicants are accepted until the class is full. Additional applicants may be considered on a wait-list basis. Candidates for admission must demonstrate maturity, academic ability and sincerity to enter the field of Oriental medicine.

Materials required for application:

  • Completed SIOM application with recent photo.
  • Official transcripts of prior education sent directly to SIOM from the originating institution.  Transcripts from other countries must be translated into English and evaluated by a credential-evaluation service. We suggest World Education Service (www.wes.org).
  • Essay describing reasons for choosing this field and the Seattle Institute.
  • Statement of plans to fulfill financial obligations.
  • $50 application fee (non-refundable).

Transfer Credit to SIOM: All applicants to the SIOM program are expected to enter at the beginning of the program. There are provisions for students to apply for credit for some biomedical science and Chinese language courses. Students must supply records of college credit for similar course work and may be required to demonstrate competence in the required material.
