2008 Clinic Faculty
Altschuler, Daniel, L.Ac, PhD, recently returned to the US after nearly 15 years in Taiwan learning and teaching TCM. His training emphasized researching classic texts and applying them to difficult diseases in the modern clinic. With a MA (1992) in Asian religions from UCLA and a PhD (2005) in TCM from Guangzhou Chinese Medical College, Daniel has enjoyed volunteering at monastic clinics in Nepal. His specialties include neuropathy, cancer, and chronically stubborn diseases.
Stephen Brown, L.Ac., graduated from the Japan Central Acupuncture College in 1983. He is licensed in Japan in acupuncture, moxibustion, and acupressure. Stephen has also translated several texts into English from Japanese, including Introduction to Meridian Therapy by Shudo Denmai. His areas of expertise are sports injuries, headaches, depression/affective disorder, and working with people who have a fear of acupuncture needles. The techniques that Stephen uses are extremely gentle yet very powerful.
Dinkins, Marguerite, L.Ac., Marguerite received her Master’s degree in acupuncture and Oriental medicine (M.Ac.O.M.) at the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine (SIOM) in 2000. Since then, she has been in private practice in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. Marguerite continues to develop her skills in acupuncture and palpation, as well as pursue Osteopathic study of anatomy and palpation at the Canadian College of Osteopathy in Vancouver.
Li Jin, B.T.C.M. (China), L.Ac., is a graduate of Chengdu University of Chinese Medicine (1993). She has taught in Europe and Israel, as well as at several colleges in the United States. Dr. Jin specializes in the treatment of a wide variety of women’s disorders. She is a very competent general practitioner. Dr. Jin is continuing to work toward a doctoral degree in traditional medicine. She also maintains a private practice in Seattle.
Paul Karsten, L.Ac., M.Ed., is a graduate of SAMRA University of Oriental Medicine (1982) and received a Master’s degree in medical education from the University of Washington (1996). Paul is one of the founders of SIOM and currently its President. He teaches in the theory courses and clinical preceptorship.
Wei-Qun Miao, M.T.C.M. (China), graduated from Zhejiang University College of Medicine in 1991 and began working in the Zhejiang Provincial Hospital. She has maintained a clinical practice since 1991, specializing in gynecology, asthma, allergic rhinitis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and digestive system disorders. She practices a unique variety of abdominal acupuncture, as well as being an experienced herbalist. Dr. Miao will be teaching internal medicine and herbal medicine, as well as supervising in the clinic and seeing her own patients.
Craig Mitchell, L.Ac., received his training in acupuncture and Oriental medicine at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco. He then studied Chinese language and Chinese medicine in Taiwan for several years. He has translated several Chinese medical texts, including the classic Shang Han Lun. For the last few years, Craig has been teaching courses on Chinese herbal medicine, theory, and diagnosis at several acupuncture colleges in the New York area as well as working as a clinic supervisor. Craig is the Academic Dean at SIOM.
Jason Robertson L.Ac., is a graduate of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (2000). He is involved in ongoing post-graduate studies in Beijing with acupuncture specialist, Dr. Wang. Jason maintains a private practice in Seattle. He teaches acupuncture point groups and point location.
Susan Scott, L.Ac., has been in private practice in the Seattle area for close to twenty years. She actively utilizes Toyohari acupuncture, Manaka ion-pumping cord techniques, Nogier auricular acupuncture, and craniosacral assessments in her practice. She also uses the Nogier VAS technique to assist her decisions regarding herbal supplements. Susan does not use raw herbs in her practice. Susan will be teaching the Microsystems—Auricular course and supervising a shift in clinic on Monday afternoons. We are very pleased to have her bring her eclectic style of practice to share with SIOM interns and patients.
Yun Wang, M.D. (China), L.Ac., received his medical training at the Qingdao Medical College (1978) and supplemented his acupuncture training at the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (1993). He maintains a private practice in Seattle specializing in treatment of musculoskeletal pain, trauma, and stroke. Dr. Wang is a popular teacher with a great technique and friendly manner.
Jing Yu, M.T.C.M. (China), L.Ac., is a graduate of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (1983) and is in private practice in Seattle. Her areas of specialty are the treatment of digestive complaints and musculoskeletal pain, especially shoulder, low back, and neck. She also treats sciatica, stroke sequelae, sinus problems, and insomnia.
Liangxi Zheng, M.T.C.M. (China), is a graduate of the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (198), 1991). His specialty in China was acupuncture techniques with expertise in scalp acupuncture for treating stroke patients. Liangxi teaches acupuncture techniques and participates in clinical training.
