The Admissions Process

SIOM begins accepting applications for admission beginning in December for entry into the programs the following September. Applicants with plans to complete some prerequisites prior to the fall start date may be accepted on a contingency basis. The upcoming scheduled dates for interviews are as follows:

June 7, 2010

Interview spots are on a space available basis.  To be considered for a particular date you must have a complete application turned in at least two weeks before the interview date.  Early application is recommended.

Decisions regarding acceptance are made within two weeks after the interview. Applicants are accepted until the class is full.  Some applicants may be placed on a wait-list basis. Candidates for admission must demonstrate maturity, academic ability and sincerity to enter the field of Oriental medicine.

ADMISSION POLICIES

English Language Requirement: All classes are taught in English. If the admissions committee has any concerns regarding the applicant's written and/or verbal fluency, the applicant will be required to score at least 500 on the PBT or 173 on the CPT of the TOEFL exam. The applicant may also be asked to take the Test for Spoken English (TSE).

Transfer Policy: All applicants to the SIOM program are expected to enter at the beginning of the program. There are provisions for students to apply for credit for some biomedical science and Chinese language courses. Assessment of transfer credit is done on a case-by-case basis.  Students must submit a Transfer Credit Request Form (available through the Academic Coordinator) and provide records of previous college credit.  It may also be necessary to submit additional documentation and/or take a competency exam in the material.   Acceptance of transfer credit does not affect the overall cost of the program or the length of time to complete the program.  Please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
